Titanic survivor Milvina receives goodwill messages
Britain's last Titanic survivor Milvina Dean has been receiving messages of good will as she prepares to mark the 95th anniversary of the disaster.
Milvina, who is known throughout the world, has for many years helped to keep the story of the ill-fated liner alive.
She has voiced her regret at the sale of Titanic objects taken from the wreck now resting on the bottom of the Atlantic.
The Daily Echo has received messages from America from Titanic enthusiasts wishing Milvina good health and hoping she will play a role in the forthcoming programme of anniversary events in Southampton.
Among the commemorations in the city will be a Titanic exhibition and an open air service in front of the engineers memorial in Southampton's East Park.
| Don’t miss a special commemorative supplement to mark the 95th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic in the Daily Echo on April 14 | |
|
Aged just ten weeks old in April, 1912, Milvina survived together with her older brother and mother but her father's body was never recovered following the sinking.
Milvina was handed to passengers in lifeboat "C'' as Titanic slipped neneath the waves and was eventually rescued by the liner, Carpathia.
A regular figure until recently at Titanic events both in this country and overseas, Milvina has been interviewed countless times about her voyage on Titanic as her parents headed for a new life as immigrants in Kansas.

Dear Milvina,
I am a member of staff at Southampton University, and know that one of our uni-link buses is named after you. I have always been an enthusiast of the titanic story, and am honoured to find that you are named on one of our buses.
I am sure that the university would join me in saying I wish we could all be with you on the next upcoming anniversary, but if we can't we would all like to wish you well, as you are one of the living memories of that amazing ship, and it's tragic tale.
My thoughts and wishes are with you always, and I hope that uni-link keep the bus names after you for years to come. Whenever I am on that bus, I think of you.
With greatest regard,

Ms Dean,
I have been a Titanic fanantic for most of my life. I have hung your picture that you autographed above my fire place. I just want to say I wish you well and I hope you will be here to commemorate the 100th anniv. of hte sinking of the Titanic. I know it is nothing to celebrate, however, man learned so much from this disaster. Man, corrected and made many modifications to the ship building industry due to this terrible disaster. I feel the Titanic has saved thousands & thousands of lives. We see what we did wrong. It is so terrible it took so many lives for us to see what we did wrong. Thank you for saving so many lives. May the peace of the Lord Christ be with you and God Bless you my friend. I love you Ms Dean

Dear Millvina,
I think of you everyday and pray for your complete recovery. You have opened your heart to many over the years through your connection to Titanic and been so very gracious. I miss being able to phone you on occasion. I wish you and yours a truly Blessed and Happy Easter.

Dear Milvina, My father's family come from Southampton and my Nana was born at the turn of the century, so in 1912, she was 12 years old. She told me once, when I was a little girl (I'm 42 now) that she could remember going to school the day after the Titanic sank, and how many children there were at school, who were in tears, because they had lost their dads, because they were staff on board. Obviously that impacted on me hugely, as I can still remember it. What a tragedy, and to think you survived it is remarkable. God Bless you and may you see many more anniversaries.
Very best wishes, Jo

Dear Milvina,
I am in a program called R.O.G.A.T.E. at Hammonton Middle School in New Jersey, and it is for gifted and talented students. I am currently working with a partner to see if the Titanic had hit the iceburg head on, if it would have sunk slower. My parter and I would like to interview you online,if we could, to see your insight on this hypothesis. Please if you are reading this we are just two middle school students that need your help. Thank You! We hope to hear from you soon.

I am 19 years old and am a huge Titanic enthusiast. I sit in my local libary for hours reading anything about the Titanic i can get my hands on. I done a project on the Titanic when i was still at school and am currently doing some more extensive research about the Steamliner. Your story is one I've heard many times and still enjoy hearing it.
I wish you and yours the very best and god bless.

Hello Mrs. Dean.
I am doing a paper about Titanic, and wanted to ask you some questions. I am sure this is not possible, but I was just wondering. My paper is not what happened that night, but what happened because of Titanic. I though it would be very nice for my paper if I had a first person opinion of it. I have always been so intrigued by Titanic, and would be greatly appreciated if I could get your opinion. If not, I completely understand. If you could please e-mail me at Preppy08@gmail.com if you are willing to give me your opinion.
Thank You,
Tara Filliater

Dear Mrs. Dean,
In our reading group, we just finished reading a story about the Titanic. We are fourth & fifth graders and are very interested in how you survived. Our reading teacher thinks it's a miracle! Do you remember any of the Titanic, even though you were just a baby? We're you wealthy to be able to go on the Titanic? Were you on the boat as it was tilting/sinking or were you already in a rowboat? Did your family know Rose from the Titanic? Were you on the top floor or the bottom floor? How old was your brother when you were on the Titanic? Did your Mom leave any jewelry on the Titanic? When did your Mom pass away? Was it hard for your Mom to heal, after the Titanic, since your Dad passed away on the Titanic? How do you feel about the Titanic exhibit? Do you feel famous? Please write us back. We will be so excited to hear from you!
Thank you. Ms. Meier, Richard, Brett, Theo and Corey

Milvina,
Wow, that is so cool that you were on the Titanic. I am obssessed with learning about it! It was such a terrible disaster and so many people died. You must have been one strong child to survive. I was born on April 10 1992, an anniversary of the 1st voyage of the Titanic. It's kind of a coincidence that I was born on that day and love learning about the Titanic. To meet you would be amazing!

Dear Milvina, all of my adult life i have followed the story of the tragic disaster of the 'Titanic'. A glorious beautiful ship that was struck so terribly and what an awful loss of life. I have all the DVD's of the films, documentaries with you in them and many books. I even have a model of the ship. I cannot imagine how you felt and still feel about the sinking and loss of your family and all the other passengers, but nearly 100 years on and my 47 years still brings me to tears. You are a remarkable lady and my thoughts are with you. Love and best wishes David xx

Dear Milvina,
my name is Rebecca Georgiades and I'm currently working on an "autonomous learners" school project about the Titanic.I am now in year 8 at William Clarke College, NSW, Australia. Ever since I learnt of the Titanic when I was much younger, I became fascinated by the story of the "unsinkable ship" and began to research the internet, books and films about the Titanic.I understand that you were just a newborn when you boarded the ship. I am very interested in your experiences and would appreciate if you could write to me and let me know stories or memories that have been shared with you through your family. Not only do I have a personal interest but any information you could share with me would be valuable for my school project.I hope to hear from you soon and I am very excited at just the thought that I might be able to talk to somone who has actually experienced the 'Titanic'.
Kind Regards,
Rebecca Georgiades
