Tim Kay wrote the title music for Jamie At Home

LADY luck gave a budding musician the opportunity to impress a celebrity chef - and now train guard Tim Kay is on track to making a successful career in the music world.

Mr Kay, of Winterthur Way, Basingstoke, has just signed a deal with record label Warner Brothers after the success of his theme music for Jamie Oliver's cookery programme Jamie At Home. The track, called My World, will be released as a single next month.

The 30-year-old, who currently works as a train guard for South West Trains at Basingstoke railway station, began his music career while working as a waiter in London four years ago.

Mr Kay said: "I moved to London from Reading to seek my fortune. I just happened to move into this shared house where two people worked at Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant in the East End, and so I got a job there as a waiter."

While he was there, the staff put on a talent night and, after hearing him play his guitar, the famous chef was impressed.

Mr Kay recalled: "We hired out this nightclub and we all performed on stage. Jamie came up to me at the end of my set and said it was brilliant."

Since making his big impression, the musician has performed at various fundraising gigs for the restaurant, and went to Australia to perform as a warm-up act for Mr Oliver's live cookery shows. And now he has created the title track for Jamie At Home.

Mr Kay, who cites American singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley as his major influence, hopes the release of the single will really kick-start his music career.

He said: "I do not want to be a train guard for the rest of my life. I put the track on my MySpace site, and the level of interest has been amazing."
